Focus and Scope

The Iranian Journal of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (IJAAI), an international peer-reviewed scientific and research journal, seeks to publish original papers, selected review articles, case-based reviews, and other articles of special interest related to the fields of asthma, allergy, and immunology. The journal is an official publication of the Iranian Society of Asthma and Allergy (ISAA), which is supported by the Immunology, Asthma, and Allergy Research Institute (IAARI) and published by the Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). The journal seeks to provide its readers with the highest quality materials published through a process of careful peer reviews and editorial comments. All papers are published in English.

The IJAAI uses the World Association of Medical Editors’ definition of editorial freedom and is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The journal adopts COPE’s guidelines upon encounter with ethical misbehavior.

Peer Review Process

In the Iranian Journal of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (IJAAI), all manuscripts are considered confidential. They are peer-reviewed by at least 2 anonymous reviewers selected by the Editorial Board (section editor). The corresponding author will be notified of the editor’s decision regarding acceptance or rejection of the manuscript or requiring modifications. An accepted manuscript is scheduled for publication in the next upcoming issue(s).

 Fast-track Review and Fast-publishing Options

It is sometimes necessary for authors to meet publication deadlines, such as for promotion and tenure, thesis defenses, grant proposals, spending of research funds before a specified deadline, or publishing follow-up papers.

IJAAI offers fast-track publication and review, which aims at providing extra-fast review and publication without compromising quality when a quick decision is required especially for papers with public health needs. In order to guarantee a quick turnaround, we offer fast-track review and fast-publication fees (please see the publication fees’ table).

If you choose fast-track review and premium publishing, you are guaranteed:

  • Following submission and payment of the fast-track fee (FTF), the manuscript will receive an editorial decision for the first review round during the first wekk after the submission and if it is sent out for peer review, peer review comments will be sent to the authors within 2-3 weeks (instead of a routine time between 4-8 weeks)
  • Upon receipt of the acceptance letter and payment of the fast-publication fee, your final paper will be published in the current issue (if there are at least 21 days left to publish the current issue), otherwise in the next issue.

Some important points:

  • Please note that acceptance is not guaranteed by the fast-track review option. Although we rarely reject manuscripts without the first round of peer-review (also known as editorial "desk-review" or “screening” at other journals), we reserve the right to reject the paper without external review if the paper is out of scope or if it has obvious flaws, and we will not refund the FTF if we reach this decision within the promised 2-3 weeks.
  • Before the FTF payment, please check the status of the manuscript to be changed from “Submitted” to “Under Review”.
  • A fast-track fee is not refundable under any circumstance, even if the paper is rejected (with or without peer review) within the allotted time frame.
  • If the payment is delayed, the review process is extended.
  • The fast-track option is available throughout the year except for the Iranian National Holidays (March 5th-April 5th)
  • A fast-publishing fee is not refundable
  • Copyediting or proofreading requests where we do not receive a response from the author are not counted.

To fast-track a submission, please email (ijaai@tums.ac.ir) or call/give a massage to Mrs. Aylin Mardanpour, the financial manager and journal’s technician.
