Focus and Scope

The Iranian Journal of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (IJAAI) is an esteemed international peer-reviewed scientific and research journal. It is dedicated to disseminating original papers, select review articles, case-based reviews, and other articles of notable significance across the domains of asthma, allergy, and immunology. As an official publication of the Iranian Society of Asthma and Allergy (ISAA), IJAAI enjoys the support of the Immunology, Asthma, and Allergy Research Institute (IAARI) and is published by the esteemed Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). With an unwavering commitment to excellence, the journal strives to present its readers with content of the highest quality, meticulously refined through thorough peer reviews and insightful editorial commentary. All contributions are presented in English to ensure a global reach.

IJAAI adheres to the World Association of Medical Editors' definition of editorial freedom and proudly aligns with the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). In cases of ethical misbehavior, the journal diligently applies COPE's guidelines to uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct.

Peer Review Process

At the Iranian Journal of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (IJAAI), we uphold the utmost confidentiality for all submitted manuscripts. Each manuscript undergoes a thorough peer review process conducted by a minimum of 2 anonymous reviewers, meticulously selected by the Editorial Board (section editor). The corresponding author is subsequently informed of the editor's decision regarding the acceptance, rejection, or need for revisions of the manuscript. Accepted manuscripts are then scheduled for publication in upcoming issues.

Fast-track Review and Fast-publishing Options:

We recognize that there are instances where authors must adhere to specific publication deadlines—such as those related to promotions, tenure, thesis defenses, grant proposals, research fund expenditures, or the publication of follow-up papers.

To accommodate these needs, IJAAI presents fast-track publication and review options. This avenue is designed to facilitate an expedited review and publication process without compromising the standard of quality, especially when swift decisions are imperative, particularly for papers addressing public health concerns.

Opting for fast-track review and premium publishing provides the following benefits:

  1. Swift Initial Review: Following manuscript submission and payment of the fast-track fee (FTF), the first review round's editorial decision will be communicated within the first week after submission. If the manuscript proceeds to peer review, authors will receive peer review comments within 2-3 weeks—a marked improvement from the standard review timeline of 4-8 weeks.

  2. Expedited Publication: Upon receiving the acceptance letter and submitting the fast-publication fee, your final paper will be promptly published in the current issue—provided there are a minimum of 21 days left for the issue's publication. Otherwise, publication will occur in the subsequent issue.

 Important Considerations:

  • We would like to bring your attention to a few critical points concerning the fast-track review and publishing option:

    1. No Guaranteed Acceptance: It is important to understand that the fast-track review option does not guarantee manuscript acceptance. While we seldom reject manuscripts without the initial round of peer review (also referred to as editorial "desk review" or "screening" in other journals), we retain the right to decline a paper without external review if it falls outside the journal's scope or exhibits evident flaws. In such cases, if this decision is reached within the stipulated 2-3 weeks, the fast-track fee (FTF) will not be refunded.

    2. Check Manuscript Status: Before making the FTF payment, please verify that the manuscript's status has transitioned from "Submitted" to "Under Review."

    3. Non-Refundable FTF: The fast-track fee is non-refundable under all circumstances, even if the manuscript is rejected (with or without peer review) within the designated time frame.

    4. Delayed Payment Impact: Any delay in the payment will result in an extension of the review process.

    5. Exclusion During Holidays: The fast-track option is available throughout the year, except during the Iranian National Holidays observed from March 5th to April 5th.

    6. Non-Refundable Fast-Publishing Fee: Similar to the FTF, the fast-publishing fee is also non-refundable.

    7. Unresponsive Copyediting or Proofreading: Any copyediting or proofreading requests that do not receive a response from the author will not be considered.

We appreciate your understanding of these vital points, as they play an integral role in ensuring a streamlined review and publication process.

Open Access Policy

Our journal adheres to an open-access policy, which entails providing unrestricted access to its content. We firmly believe that enabling free access to research fosters a broader and more impactful global exchange of knowledge.

Ethical Guidelines

Authors are required to affirm that their research project's protocol has been approved by an appropriate Ethics Committee at the institution where the work was conducted. This protocol should adhere to the provisions of the Declaration of Helsinki of 1995 (revised in Edinburgh 2000). Comprehensive information about the procedure must be conveyed to all study participants, accompanied by the acquisition of informed consent from each participant. The journal reserves the right to request relevant documents.

For all research manuscripts submitted to IJAAI, authors must upload the Ethics Committee Approval Letter as a supplementary file. Additionally, the Ethical Approval Code should be clearly stated in the "Statement of Ethics" section of the manuscript.

Clinicians conducting clinical trials involving human subjects intending to publish their findings in this journal must have received clearance for their clinical trial from the Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials (IRCT) or other recognized clinical trial registries. An IRCT number is mandatory for research conducted in Iran. The essential prerequisite for clinical trial registration in IRCT is obtaining an Ethics Committee Approval Letter from a Research Ethics Committee accredited and sanctioned by the Secretariat of the National Committee for Ethics in Biomedical Research, Deputy of Research & Technology of Iran Ministry of Health & Medical Education. The ethics committee approval code should be mentioned in the manuscript's "Statement of Ethics" section.

 Important Note:

Following the conclusion and preceding the references, the following sections must be included in the manuscript's final order:

  • Statement of Ethics (comprising the ethics committee approval code)
  • Funding
  • Conflict of Interest
  • Acknowledgments

Disclosure of AI Assistance in Manuscript Preparation: Ensuring Transparency and Integrity in Scholarly Communication

Authors utilizing Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT in the preparation of their manuscripts must declare this usage both in their cover letters and at the end of their submitted texts. All submitted papers will be assessed for the probability of AI assistance. Manuscripts with AI involvement at an acceptable rate (defined by the editors) will be considered for the peer review process, while those exceeding this threshold will not proceed further. This policy emphasizes the importance of transparency in scholarly communication, ensuring the integrity of research while embracing the potential of AI technologies. By adhering to these guidelines, authors contribute to maintaining ethical standards and fostering trust within the academic community.

Copyright and Permissions

To facilitate the publication of your article in the journal, copyright ownership needs to be established. Authors should carefully read, complete, and upload the copyright agreement form on the website as a supplementary file. This agreement form encompasses explanatory notes that are also an integral component of the agreement.

In endorsing the publication of the article in the journal, the authors affirm and undertake the following:

a. The article is an original creation, not previously published, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere, either in printed or electronic form.

b. Necessary permissions have been secured from copyright holders to reproduce material not owned by the author, with proper acknowledgment.

c. The article is devoid of any copyright infringement or violation of third-party rights, and it does not contain material that is obscene, indecent, or illegal.

d. The author shall indemnify the Editors of the Iranian Journal of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology against any claims or expenses arising from breach of warranties in this Agreement.

e. For multi-authored articles, the author has received copyright assignment from co-authors in writing and has their authorization to enter into this Agreement.

Kindly note: Publication processing cannot commence until the signed copyright form is received. This form will not be effective if the manuscript is not published by IJAAI.
